Six Tips For A Better Healing After You've Had A C-Section
If you’ve had a C-section or scheduled for one. You know after you’ll be in pain and you’ll spend a large chunk of your time in bed as your incision heals. I’ve had 2 and it’s the same experience of intense pain and slow motion movements for both. It doesn’t matter if it’s your 1st or 3rd, C-section is major surgery. And with all major surgery there’s tons of pain and discomfort. I couldn’t move anywhere for at least 24 hours. And in the end, I was happy that I didn’t. Our bodies are all different and so will be our recovery. You may or may not have read about the healing process what’s never mentioned are ways we as moms can aid in our recovery with simple self-care practice.
1. Try to make it out of bed on the first day after (day 2) for a very slow walk. Walking stimulates your organs and prevents blood clot. Support your abs with your hand. 😘
2. Minimize straining with bowel movement.
3. Sleep! its the hot topic for every new mom and its easier said then done. According to research your body regenerates more quickly during sleep and it speeds up tissue repair. So call in all your favors, you need help so you can sleep.
4. You need to wait 6-8 weeks before you can work out. But you can start with deep core breathing exercises. Here’s how: drawing in your abdominal walls to your spine are 100% safe and actually sends oxygenated blood flow to your scar area which speeds up healing.
5. Your scar…you need to love it!! I know it’s easier said than done but when you fall in love with it, you will take care of it. 😍. With C-section, there is scar tissue. Some of us experience tenderness, pain or loss of sensation. Once the scar is healed you can use heating pads along with gentle massage, this helps desensitize the scar. I’m now three years in and I still feel a little tenderness.
6. Scar care..again!! Keep it DRY AND CLEAN. Don’t scrub it in the shower; just let your bath gel or soap wash over it. That’s it.
